Winter Track Training: From Spikes to Christmas Races

Winter can be a tough season for track coaches and athletes. With the cold weather and limited indoor facilities, keeping young athletes warm and motivated is essential.

We encourage parents to provide their young athletes with gloves, layers, and hats. This also allows coaches to focus on training without worrying about their comfort.

The Importance of Spikes for Teen Training

Having the right footwear is essential and spikes enhance grip and improve performance.  When purchasing spikes, remember;

  • the maximum length permitted on a track is 6mm

  • sprinters - shoes are stiff

  • distance runners - consider shoes with small heel cushioning

  • Always buy at least half to one size bigger then their shoe size

  • Buy second hand. Try Vinted!

  • Extra spikes and key from StartFitness
