In our digital world, phones are often seen as essential tools. However, at our track and clubhouse, we have a “No Phone Zone” policy during training sessions, to help all athletes engage fully during our training times from 5:15 PM to 6:15 PM and 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
This initiative is more than just a rule; it’s designed to enhance athletes' performance and improve their overall club experience.
Here’s why we believe this approach is crucial for all athletes.
Impairs Social Skills Development
Engaging in face-to-face interactions helps athletes improve invaluable skills, not only in sports but also in their personal lives.
Impairs Balance and Coordination
Using smartphones before practice can seriously impact balance and coordination. Reaction times can decrease by up to 20%.
Physiological Effects
Research indicates that engaging with a phone can lead to a 10% increase in perceived exertion, meaning athletes may feel they're working harder than they really are.
Coach Behavior
Our coaching staff supports the "No Phone Zone" policy, using their phones only for essential tasks like attendance and technique analysis, ensuring that coaches remain fully engaged with their athletes.
